About

I have had the opportunity to take on a number of roles while at University which has allowed me to grow as a person and make the most of my time at Birmingham. I am a Music Student Representative which entails making sure everyone on my course at the University is receiving the most from their degree. It also means working with lecturers and professors in my department to make sure students views are put across and dealt with. Overall this job requires a large amount of organisation and leadership qualities, coming across confident and reliable when approaching students with their concerns about the department. I have also taken on the role as a Communication officer for the University Cycling Club, allowing myself to give something back to the club for everything they have done for me while being at University. This role consisted of making sure the club is promoted in the most positive way possible through all social media platforms, subsequently encouraging cyclists to join the club and become involved but also making sure emails and messages are organised and dealt with quickly. I have also been given the opportunity to be a Ride Leader for the club which means leading a number of club rides twice a week. This role requires an extensive amount of leadership qualities, making sure that the group of cyclists are safe and are happy when cycling on roads. It also requires a great deal of communication, trying to pass information to sometimes over 15 cyclists on main roads while riding and making sure they are not struggling or have any concerns. I also volunteer with a University run charity called Headucate which helps promote mental health awareness in schools and I have also stewarded at a number of concerts run by the University which has allowed me to bring out my warm and friendly personality. Finally, I have had the privilege to work with the University led television station, Guild TV. I have taken on different roles in this society, including camera operating for their fortnightly Live programme, Birmingham Goes Live. This was a brilliant chance for me to dip my toes in the area of work and see whether it is something that interests me. Suffice to say I love every minute of it and it has further burned my passion for this career path.
I have been really fortunate so far to have been presented with many amazing opportunities which have allowed me to gain some memorable achievements. At school, I had the opportunity to explore my ambition for music. I achieved a Grade 8 Distinction for singing, a Grade 5 Merit for Theory and performed a number of solos in some amazing productions including the Opera Dido and Aeneas and Vivaldi's Gloria. I really value the opportunities my school gave to me as it fuelled my love for the subject. I am also lucky to have had a relatively successful cycling career from a youth to present day. I won two Bronze medals at the BUCS track Championships in 2016, I won a Silver medal in the National Cycling Madison Championships Youth Level 2013 and I represented Yorkshire who won twice in the UK School games in 2011 and 2012. These results among others allowed me to be awarded a number of amazing experiences including an Asda SportsAid Fund in 2011 and a Sports Scholarship at the University of Birmingham in 2015-2017. I value each and every achievement as it has allowed me to grow into the person I am today.
I have also composed for a number of clients and their projects in my spare time. These include an advertisement for WorkLink (the University job website) and a number of scores for media students including documentaries and short films. I enjoyed doing these jobs immensely and you can view them on my website.
I believe everything I have been involved with from school to present day has given me the chance to explore my ambitions but to also cement my thoughts for the future. I have a passion for music but I also have a passion for helping people and for media through my work with Guild TV and with my compositions with media clients. All of this has allowed me to be confident in the judgment that the media industry is an industry I want to further my horizons with.
