I am a young playwright, currently in residence at Lakeside Theatre, Colchester. In 2014 I was awarded an Arts Council Grant to facilitate a period of writer development with Jeni Draper and Paul Sirett culminating in ‘The Lake’, a play exploring relapses in mental illness given a rehearsed reading. In July 2015 I received further Arts Council funding to fuse the work of social entrepreneurs and arts professionals in supporting young people to help their communities. The outcome of this project will be a new self-sustaining activism group and a new play influenced by my experience. Scopus Films have commissioned me to write an animated pilot and CPL productions have expressed an interest in pitching my writing for radio to the BBC in their Autumn Offers Round. In January 2016 I intend to start work on a devised, interactive children’s show to tour East Anglian venues for Flex Theatre This show would utilise child development theories.
Previously I trained in playwriting at The University of Portsmouth and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and subsequently have written short pieces for Menagerie Theatre and a one act show at the Ipswich Pulse Festival. I co-founded Frequency Theatre, an audio theatre company where I produced, co-ordinated the literary department and periodically wrote our new weekly plays. As a result of my literary work I was invited to sit on the judging panel for the Essex Dionysia and Making Waves short play competitions. As part of my residency I speak with local writers and share my experience and have dramaturged the Essex Universities Homecoming festival of 50, 50 second plays. I have led playwriting workshops at university and above levels of study.
