My name is Nick Maynard and I was born and brought up in the North of England.
I have been writing now for over 25 years and have had my work performed by a number of theatre companies. My only TV credit, to date, is with Granada TV, for a programme called Modern Meaning, which was broadcast in 1997 and nominated for a Religious TV Award in 1998. In addition to this I have had work showcased at The Royal National Theatre and was made part of the Bruntwood 100 in 2006.
Originally I was trained as an actor and attended the Manchester Met School of Theatre, from 1985 to 1988, before working in the profession for a number of years. One of my most notable engagements was as a performer for the Granada Studio’s Tour as an East German Border Guard at Checkpoint Charlie.
In October 1991 I joined the Burnley Mechanic’s Community Arts Team and began specialising in work with young people, which lead to my involvement with Burnley Youth Theatre, where I became an Associate Artistic Director in August 1992.
In August 1992 I was made Head of Performing Arts & Theatre Studies, at Blackburn College, one of the UK’s largest FE providers, in one of the country’s most deprived areas. Now I write…
