Artist Manifesto:
"As a creative artist working in many disciplines, the sole focus of my artistry relies in storytelling and whether writing a play or composing a musical ensemble number, the initial parts of my creative process will always focus on “What is the story” or where does this piece of creation (character, song, scene) fit into the overarching story.
Although having composed over 70 songs, I will always consider myself in writing before any other art form. My love for people and psychology flows through the process of creating people and imitating life. Ensembles and large sized groups of characters that are all inter-connected are most present in my work in the variety of relationships and how differing personalities can deflect, reflect, rebound or resound.
My directorial approach stems from an inter-personal connection with people as I seek to develop personal relationships with actors and aid them in their own cathartic journey and emotional sensual creation and development of their characters.
My composing has stemmed from piano practical and theoretical study since the age of 7 and is comprised of a variety of influences; the sophisticated, detailed approach of Stephen Sondheim, the heavily thematic styles and jazzy motifs Stephen Schwartz and Alan Menken employ and the gospel heritage derived from family and a life attending church.
Musical theatre will always be my artistic home having been a life-long affection for the intrinsic combines song, dance and often drama, to tell a story. I believe in musical theatre that is sophisticated, innovative, challenging and most importantly engaging, whether emotionally or through entertainment. My goal is to pioneer a good degree of abstraction and innovation, emphasizing diverse theatricality in musical theatre not just the singing and dancing. This goal would include producing theatre in the commercial sector employing the artistic abstraction or theatrical risk seen in fringe or smaller scale productions."
