I'm a freelance Movement Director, Director & Actor originally from the North West and now primarily working in London.
My work as a Movement director includes Land of Our Fathers, which was Winner of Time Out’s Critic’s Choice and Fringe Show of the Year 2013, and shortlisted for Best Production and Best New Play in the Off West End Awards, it subsequently made a West End transfer to Trafalgar Studios and completed a UK tour the following year, both of which I did the movement direction on with new casts. I’m currently working with Director Bobby Brook as Movement Director on Acedian Pirates at Theatre503 in October this year.
Working as a Movement Director for me is not only about helping the director realise and manipulate the physical world of a play or production from a visual stand point, but also about empowering performers to realise the brilliance of their own physical being, and unlocking the infinitely unique physical choices open to them.
As a former associate director of Made From Scratch Theatre Company I have directed both short format and full length productions. I have been a script reader and worked closely with writers in the development of plays and performance poetry.
As part of Made From Scratch we produced One Hour Only by Sabrina Mahfouz (dir. Matt Wilde) for it’s run as the inaugural winner of the Old Vic New Voices, IdeasTap and Udderbelly Edinburgh Award 2012.
My full Directing and Movement Directing CV is attatched below.
As an actor I have predominantly worked within new writing. I continue to work as an actor, and believe doing so helps me to develop my own understanding of different actors’ processes through rehearsals and into performance. I would consider myself to be very much "an actor's director". The performers are a great starting point for me. I thrive on working with dynamic, playful actors and love being able to help them draw out interesting and vivid performances.
Acting Theatre credits include: Country Music (Cockpit Theatre), Peter Pan (Northern Stage), Sunday Morning at the Centre of the World (Bad Physics, BAC & Latitude), Toad (Bad Pysics, Southwark Playhouse) Hacked, Occupied, It Never Ends (Theatre 503), Chicken Dust (Finborough Theatre).
