About
Jenny Gaskell is an independent creative producer, artist and snooker presenter. Jenny makes things and makes things happen. She creates projects which are a combination of producing, socially engaged art and pratting about. She is interested in people, instigating change and making art happen in everyday places.
Jenny is the co-creator of 100 Deeds - an ongoing feminist participatory project spanning 2013-2028 (100deeds.co.uk), a performer with her local Manchester Girl Gang and misguided sports presenter for DIY YouTube channel Empty Pockets, the zero budget, zero knowledge snooker series (www.youtube.com/channel/UChRh2BhOzw4IcutJOBUTojA ). She is currently developing a project for a B&B and has made art in trams, cafes and toilet cubicles.
Jenny is the Executive Producer of Trans Creative, a trans led, trans positive, trans creative theatre company, artistically led by Kate O'Donnell, supported by Arts Council England Elevate fund (2016-2019). Kate O'Donnell is a multi-award winning trans theatre maker and activist. Jenny produced and toured ‘Big Girl’s Blouse’ autobiographical show about growing up in 1970's Britain as a transgender child, when people didn't really know what being transgender meant (Kate's family were still getting their heads around Findus Crispy Pancakes). Jenny has supported Kate to tour to 12 national venues, win 3 awards performing across (including LGBT Foundation Role Model of the Year 2015), engage trans communities, pioneer #StandByYourTrans campaign, create numerous cabaret performances and speak on a panel for Southbank Centre's Women of the World Festival.
Jenny co-produced 'The Future' - Manchester's artist development collective, which involved offering free support to artists based in Manchester, mentorship and teaching. Jenny regularly hosts 'Producer Tuesday' sessions in which she meets artists for free in a cafe and offers advice on a topic of the artist's choosing, to help build confidence and strategically grow the artist's practice. Jenny also tours to universities with a scheme called 'Now Then' in which she offers practical advice for students about how to make art in the real world, where to find opportunities, how to become known in the industry and how to not be exploited. Jenny is also a mentor with Arts Emergency.
