About

MY WORK AS A THEATRE DIRECTOR

Bang Theatre first project KILLED JULY 14,1916 produced and directed by myself played at The Jack Studio Theatre in Brockley. The play told the story of a young working-class man from Manchester executed by firing squad for desertion in WW1 The play opened on the 5th August 2014 to commemorate the start of WW1 and played to full houses every evening receiving a FOUR STAR review. I have also directed The Magnetic Lady, Ben Johnson, Shakespeares Women and various new writers work. I have also Ad on All About My Mother, CSSD,  Merchant of Venice and Grace at The Riverside Studios.
In order to develop my practice as a Theatre Director, I would like to focus on finding ways, with the actor, to open up the possibilities of creating a truthful performance.
To this end, I  undertook and recently graduated at  MASTERS Level in Actor Coaching and Teaching at The Royal Central School Of Drama  2015- 2017.

MY  WORKING PRACTICE AS A NEW THEATRE DIRECTOR.
Theatre when alive and in the moment can affect and alter another human being's way of thinking, feeling and seeing in an instant. This is the kind of theatre that I want to make.
As part of my ongoing practice and personal development as a new director, it has proven to be invaluable for me to read and see as many writers, classic and contemporary, work as possible.
I have discovered, through my readings/seeings, that it is my personal practice and artistic need to choose plays that in some way resonate with my own understanding and experience of life.
This strong connection with the play, once recognised, allows me to produce/direct a play /piece in an honest, human and simple way. It gives me the reason, determination, and rigor that it takes to deliver a piece of work that is of value, a piece of theatre that the audience connect with.
As a  new Director who trained as an Actress it is also valuable for my practice to take regular acting classes/workshops at the Actors Centre and The Acting Guild. The classes that interest me and are valuable to my practice as a director are that workshops that guide me toward helping the actors to understand and control the craft of acting alive and in the moment.
The practitioners that I have found to be inspiring, exciting and the most accessible are the Directors Mike Alfreds whose’s book, Different Every Night. Freeing the Actor is a theatre makers bible. I also follow Katie Mitchell advice in The Directors Craft, A Handbook for the Theatre.
I also bring into my practice the simple human belief that to create good work we must recognise our own humanity and respect each other needs honestly.
Therefore creating an atmosphere and working environment that allows the actor/actress and myself to feel comfortable and free to work fully and creatively is a very important part of my practice.
To summarise my evaluation as a Theatre Director.  My direction and aims for the future are to keep investigating ways to create theatre, be that Classic or New plays, that is alive and 'in' the moment. Only then do we created, as Mike Alfred states in his book, one of the most human art forms of all, live theatre.

WORK AS A FILM DIRECTOR.

I am now looking to develop my craft as a Director in Film as well as Theatre.

MY WORK IN ADVERTISING AS A CREATIVE WRITER.

Throughout my career, I have won various awards including Creative Circle, Silver, DMA, Gold award.
