CASSANDRA FUMI makes contemporary performance and experimental theatre. Her work aims to blur the line between the performer, creator and audience. Combining text, soundscapes and people to ask questions and tell stories of the human experience.
Her practice was born out of a background in journalism (BA Journalism Monash University/University of Leeds) A constant observer she responds to contemporary culture, places and people. Cassandra previously worked as the National Arts/Culture Editor at Street Press Australia (2011-2014). She has created works and performed in Melbourne Fringe Festival (2014, 2011, 2010), Next Wave (2012), Crack Theatre Festival (2010), Short + Sweet Theatre Festival (2011, 2012), Adelaide Fringe Festival (2009), Woodford Folk Festival (2009) and Meredith Music Festival (2011).
Cassandra also works in theatre as a director, stage manager and technical operator. In 2015, Cassandra relocated to London recent credits include; technical operator at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for Stuart Laws, Edward Aczel, Kieran Hodgson, Twins, Twisted Loaf, That Pair, Wild Bill and as an assessor for the Total Theatre Awards, 2015 VAULT Festival (Red Bastard, Please Don't Talk About Me When I’m Gone), In Between Time Festival (Night Songs-Reckless Sleepers), The Space Theatre (When We Dead Awaken), Free Word Centre (People Vs Democracy) and Cockpit Theatre (DIY Horror Show).
In the UK she has worked with Les Foules Theatre, HOAX, MKA, Hobo Theatre, Two Tounge Theatre, Berk's Nest and is a member of the Young Vic Directing Program.
Currently Cassandra is production managing Impermanent Festival of Contemporary Performance and working on the ongoing project, The Connexion Series.
