About
I completed my training in Media Makeup at the Bath Academy of Media Makeup (BAMM) in April 2017 under the idirection of Peter Swords King, as well as other fantastic working tutors.
Starting the course as a mature student (35), the knowledge, work ethic and people skills I developed previously have been a great advantage. After working in radio media for 10 years, I am now finally focusing on my passion for media makeup.
Whilst at BAMM, I learnt essential skills in all key areas of media makeup for Film, Television, Theatre, Fashion and Editorial, covering: Period and Vintage styles; creating and applying facial Postiche; makeup for SFX; and learning and developing techniques of airbrushing for Bridal, Editorial and Fashion. These skills have since been used and improved throughout the productions I have worked on.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time studying at BAMM and during my time there I realised my passion lies within Film and TV. Since finishing the course, I have been lucky enough to work on several productions, both in main team and crowd. These have allowed me to continue to develop my skills alongside some fantastic teams, as well as giving me a greater understanding of how the industry works and allowing me to appreciate that every team and production can be quite different. In my previous job I had to adapt my approach depending on the team I was working with; this gives me a better understanding and ability to carry this on in my new career.
I have developed an understanding of the importance of continuity, as well as being able to adhere to a brief and not veer off in my own direction. I understand the process of script and character breakdown and the design process from pre-production to post production. I was lucky enough when working on main team to work closely alongside the designer, developing my skills further. I can’t wait to keep learning from different teams and designers, as well as being on hand to help them with their day to day needs when on the job.
I am now 3 years into my career and have since been lucky enough to work on soem grrat productions including His Dark Materials and Sanditon - both on mainteam.
