Hi, I'm Lauren and I'm an editor, director and producer.
I am most interested in the way that film, theatre and television world reaches out to so many people, spreading stories nationally and internationally. My favourite genres are drama and historical film, and in May I wrote a 30 page script based on New York gangsters in the early 1900's. Creating characters and conducting historical research into the period was challenging, but it was worth the perseverance. In the future I would like the opportunity to expand this into a full-length script and then a play, film or TV show. I enjoy both practical and written study of film, and have practical experience with both practical filmmaking and a producing and planning aspect, including making call sheets, treatment sheets and risk assessments to industry standard.
I set up a film and television website because it can be difficult for young people in the North East of England to get work experience for the film and television industry. By doing this I have learned about keeping to deadlines and the effort it takes to try to please an audience, as well as administrative skills. Within the first year of owning my website (www.insidecinema.co.uk) I have had over 400,000 views and now act as editor for 7 other contributors. The popularity of the website led to me setting up Hartlepool's first ever film festival. My documentary and music video were shown at the film festival, and it received major interest from the MP for Hartlepool, who has backed the festival. In 2015 we hosted the 2nd festival, and I reached a wider audience by holding the 3rd running at NYU in New York. In May 2015 my documentary ‘Sixteen’ was nominated for a Royal Television Award.
The experience of running the website has helped me advance my career and build industry links, and I have been lucky enough to have worked with Jim O’Heir and Amy Poehler from NBC’s ‘Parks and Recreation’, invited to London Film and Comic Con to interview cast members from FOX’s ‘American Horror Story’, attended the premiere of Alan Rickman’s latest film ‘A Little Chaos’ and was invited to the premiere of ‘Still Alice’, starring Julianne Moore.
In September 2014 I had work experience on the set of the new Hollywood movie 'Through the Looking Glass', which is the sequel to Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland'. I worked alongside Hollywood stars such as Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway. This experience has helped me be able to take jobs in film and TV more easily, as experience on a production of such a scale is an amazing opportunity for someone my age. My work experience has extended to locally made films, working on two films. During both the Hollywood and local work experience, I saw all aspects of filmmaking, including production, directing and health and safety, and learned how to conduct myself on a professional film set where time and money was an important factor.
