Hi there, I am Anna Clock, a composer, sound designer and musician based in London via Dublin. In my works I aim to create unique aural experiences that challenge audiences. I often use spatial techniques and elements of spontaneity, including improvisation, and my work is often collaborative and interdisciplinary. I work across all forms including theatre, film and installation, as well as composing works for other musicians and performing myself. I create my sound designs and compositions using a combination of foley, electronics, field recordings and live instruments and vocals.
My work in theatre is extensive and includes playback sound, compositions performed live by performers and binaural headphone sound. I co-direct Very Clock theatre company and have ongoing relationships with a number of other companies. I specialise in devised theatre, site specific work and new writing.
My work for film includes foley, sound design and composition.
Other recent collaborations include work with visual artists, dancers and scientists.
As a composer and instrumentalist I have written for the RTE Contempo quartet, Tonnta, New Dublin Voices, Kirkos Ensemble, Node Ensemble, Dulciana, Gamelan Nua as well as for my own groups Low Tide and Téada Orchestra, and performed and recorded with a number of Irish acts including Gavin Prior, David Turpin, Emma O’Reilly, Hozier, David Lacey and others. My first release was Celestial, and is available for purchase and download at www.annaclock.bandcamp.com.
I have run workshops in musical improvisation and DIY electronics for musicians and am an active member of the Irish Composers Collective. I studied Music (composition) and English Literature at Trinity College Dublin and ‘cello performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. I achieved a Distinction in MA Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in November 2016.
