Hi, I'm Hannah. I'm a theatre director, producer and dramaturg based in the South West of England where I work freelance as well as running the award-winning site-specific theatre company Insane Root (www.insaneroot.co.uk).

Insane Root's inaugural production of Shakespeare's Macbeth took place in the Redcliffe Caves in July 2015, returning for an extended 6-week run in the summer of 2016. We subsequently produced a new interpretation of the classical myth Orpheus & Eurydice within Clifton Suspension Bridge, which received national acclaim, and in December 2017 we completed a radical reimagining of The Tempest in St John on the Wall's Crypt, which we hope to tour in 2019/20. Our work is characterised by close-knit acapella singing, ensemble staging and expertly adapted text.

My most recent projects include co-directing the critically acclaimed Flies for Pins & Needles and Les Enfants Terribles at the Edinburgh Fringe, as well as adapting and directing a vibrant new version of Romeo & Juliet in a disused open air swimming pool in Bristol. I spent most of 2017 as resident director for the National Theatre's tour of Jane Eyre, directed by Sally Cookson. I trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (2009-10) where I won the Elsa Roberts Prize for Directing.

In addition to directing I have dramaturged a number of plays and acted as Script Reader for the Tobacco Factory, Rondo Theatre and Bristol Old Vic. I am also a regular Visiting Director at the University of Cumbria and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and have taught at the University of Bath Spa as well as running theatre workshops.
