About
I am musical director/songwriter, working with bands including my own (Darla And The Blonde) and writing for musicals. I am musical director with Strange Productions, a not-for-profit theatre production organisation that specialises in creating musical theatrical shows that are written for, and presented in, specific environments or locations.
We aim to:
Educate and inspire communities about the history of their own environment. We use theatre and music to tap into the psychogeography of a location, building or environment, forming new stories from past events, old stories and legends. Our short productions however are intended to also be adapted for tour or for the stage if touring is possible.
Create 50% roles for women of all ages. We specifically aim to create roles for women of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities and have a minimum 50% roles for women. We aim to create at least one acting/ musical role for the 50yrs+ women who may otherwise struggle to find interesting parts.
Inspire young women to pursue musical or theatrical careers. Strange Productions is run by two creative women. We aim to encourage more young women to become playwrights, poets, songwriters, musicians and actors by showing the bones of how to make art happen. We do this by inviting young women members to learn by through work experience opportunities, and running workshops eg songwriting workshops.
