About
Nia Childs is a writer and director. Her short films have played at a number of festivals including The BFI London Film Festival, The London Short Film Festival and BFI Flare. Her films are often set in urban spaces and examine the portrayal of crime in popular culture, with a haunting, magical realist edge. Her films draw focus on working class, often female-lead stories. She is currently working on a slate of film and television projects. Her first feature, A Body in the Thames, is being produced by BIFA nominated producer Jessi Gutch and My Accomplice.
Nia is also a curator, with contemporary British cinema being her area of knowledge and expertise, particularly working-class stories, which is reflected in her curation as well as her filmmaking. Most recently, she curated 'Acting Hard' a season exploring working class masculinity on screen for the BFI.
