Larah Simpson

Theatre Director

  • Location: London
  • Career stage: Entry
  • Freelancer: Available

Larah is a young, British theatre director based in London.

She has recently worked with Daniel Slater on a new production of Romeo & Juliet for the Singapore Repertory Theatre, and with Kate Golledge on new musical The Battle of Boat for the National Youth Music Theatre.

She has a broad scope of experience as a director and assistant director, working in musical theatre, opera, children's theatre, drama and immersive/site-specific theatre.
Larah believes that working across theatrical genres, and taking techniques from rehearsal rooms that don't usually collide, allows each company to experience a unique process when shaping a new production.

Storytelling is the very foundation of theatre, and is the essence of each production Larah works on. Unlocking the heart of each story, and allowing the audience to experience and explore, to be educated or illuminated, entertained or emotionally engaged - or perhaps all of the aforementioned - is what drives Larah as a director.

Larah is also a seasoned workshop leader and teacher, having coached many students in acting and singing in schools & universities, and for companies including RNIB, PQA, Trinity London and OHP.

Larah is currently writing and developing a new musical play about poet Lord Byron and his mathematician daughter Ada Lovelace - think a vaudevillian, Blackadder-esque The Go-Between and you're part way there!
