  • Freelancer: Available

Hello! My name is Elliot, I am a dramaturg, director, and writer currently based in Glasgow. My experience so far has centred around the development and presentation of new work.

Most recently, I acted as assistant director to artistic director Orla O’Loughlin on the Traverse Theatre/Tron Theatre co-production of Rob Drummond’s Grain in the Blood a role in which I was supported by the Saltire Society.

Other professional assistant director credits include: Goodfellow: Anatomy of the Gun (dir. Carl Heap, Wellcome-funded development and showing, Beggars’ Belief), Ophelia (dir. Stewart Laing, Òran Mór, Play, Pie, & a Pint Classic Cuts Season), Cape Wrath (dir. Rachael Walton, Third Angel, As Artistic Placement, 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Run with Northern Stage).

Assistant Director Credits on non-professional shows: When the Rain Stops Falling (dir. Katherine Nesbitt, Tron Theatre, Makeshift Broadcast), The Giant and her Daughter (dir. Helene Grøn, Leylines Theatre, Southside Fringe/Govanhill Baths/Refugee Festival Scotland).

In my time on placement with the Traverse Theatre, I also wrote a weekly nine-part blog discussing various aspects of the rehearsal and production process, as well as my impressions of the artistic endeavours of the company which was published online on both the official website and on the venue’s Tumblr page. I was pleased by the positive responses that were received by myself and the theatre as a result of these, so I am keen to keep exploring ways of documenting and opening up rehearsal processes for devotees and newcomers alike.

As a keen theatre devotee and practitioner, I value theatre very highly as a source of fun, reflection, and connection. I know firsthand the amazing confidence-boosting power that drama can have, so I take great care when it comes to imparting these experiences onto others, either by presenting them with a piece or by helping them to create a piece themselves.
