INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED, OSCAR NOMINATED AND EMMY AWARD WINNING MAKEUP AND HAIR DESIGNER VERONICA MCALEER has opened a Makeup training school based at the Custard Factory in Birmingham.

The MAKUP FILM AND MEDIA MAKEUP ACADEMY specialises in high quality intensive training and will enhance students’ portfolio and prospective career opportunities. Three courses are available; Top Up Set Ready, Intensive Set Ready and Up Skill Set Ready.

Veronica trained at BBC Pebble Mill in 1984, after completing a hairdressing and beauty therapy course. She began working in the film industry in 1990, and has since worked on over thirty films and countless television programmes. She has personally designed hair and makeup for fifteen feature films.

Veronica’s credits include Oscar nominations for ‘Mrs Brown’ and ‘Shakespeare in Love’, an Emmy Award for ‘The Life and Death of Peter Sellers’, and a Royal Television Society Award for ‘The Great Plague’. She has also worked as Personal Hair and Make Up Artist for Paul Bettany, Jennifer Connelly and Colin Firth.

Among her career highlights, Veronica counts the ‘pinch yourself’ moments; being blown a kiss by Johnny Depp, sharing a lift with Sean Connery at the Oscars and sharing a makeup bus with Harrison Ford.

During her career, she has worked with many household names including James McAvoy, Michael Caine, Geoffrey Rush, Daniel Craig, Johnny Lee Miller, Damien Lewis, Ray Winstone, Andy Serkis, Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Helena Bonham Carter, Judi Dench, Miranda Richardson, Minnie Driver, Julie Walters, Maggie Smith, Emily Watson, Lindsay Duncan, Heidi Klum and many more.

Not only does Veronica have 30 years experience as a Make-up Artist with extensive knowledge in all aspects of hair and make-up within a broad spectrum of film genres, but before  opening her own Make-up school, Veronica worked  for two and a half years as a Higher Education Senior  lecturer on a media makeup course at Univercity College Birmingham. This was invaluable in helping to further develop her core teaching skills. Whilst at UCB  she was acknowledged as a being an OUTSTANDING Lecturer.  Veronica’s knowledge is extensive, she is passionate about sharing her industry know–how with her students, encouraging talent, dedication and ambition through the highest standards of training.
