Karla Williams is an award winning screenwriter and playwright. She won the Best Screenplay Award at the Van d’Or Awards for Independent Film 2013 for her short film Pretty Bitch (based upon the stage play of the same name).
Pretty Bitch the film, has been selected for Festivals all over the world including London Short Film Festival, BFI Future Film Festival, Smalls Film Festival, Bornshorts Festival in Denmark, Teen International Film Festival in Turkey and the Annual Vancouver International Woman in Film Festival. Pretty Bitch the stage play has been performed at Soho Theatre, London and Pleasance Theatre, Islington.
She has also had work read at Oval House Theatre, Watford Palace Theatre and The Broadway Theatre, Barking as well as being a member of writers groups at Royal Court Theatre (Critical Mass), Oval House, Watford Palace Theatre and Talawa Theatre Company. An extract from her most recent full length play But I Don’t Like Girls was performed at the MAC in Birmingham in July 2014. The play was also selected and performed as a rehearsed reading at the Talawa Firsts Festival in June 2014 and long listed for the Alfred Fagon Award 2014.
