About
My training is in design, but all aspects of costume interest me - consequently much of my working time has been spent researching and writing, as well as making. Over the years I have developed a comprehensive understanding of accurate period style and colour, and a keen eye for detail, but I also love the opportunity to be eclectic and surreal in my work.
I am experienced in pattern cutting, construction, and tailoring for all periods, and am confident in a wide range of techniques, from intricate hand stitching to millinery, corsetry, and modern machining.
Things I love about working in costume:
- breaking down the script for direct references and planning;
- discussing characterisation with actors and designers, and helping to achieve their vision;
- using 'mere clothing' to convey atmosphere, personality, background and the story itself.
