About
My first feature film spec screenplay - the romantic comedy-drama Fado! - is currently in pre-production. I have since been hired to write a second feature film (based on a true story) and work on another independent British family feature; I also recently completed another spec feature script (a romantic comedy jukebox musical). For screenwriting, I’m represented by Christina Pickworth at Imagine Talent.
Although I am currently concentrating on film, my writing credits cover radio, TV, live shows and podcasts. They include The News Quiz (BBC Radio 4),, the live topical comedy show NewsRevue (Canal Cafe Theatre) and panel show Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC2). I was also the lead writer on the acclaimed comedy politics podcast Strong & Stable – which made both The Guardian and The Independent‘s lists of The Best Podcasts Of The Year.
I was part of the development team for Creative England & BFI’s short film competition iShorts+ Funny Girls; and I have twice been a judge for the Funny Women Awards. I have spoken on panels about writing and comedy at events/conferences including the London Screenwriters’ Festival, the London Comedy Writers’ Festival and the Craft Of Comedy Writing Conference. I recently took part in University of Leeds’ first Creative Life Stories event, supporting students from underrepresented groups wishing to pursue careers in the cultural & creative sectors.
Previous to screenwriting I was a freelance writer/creative for various websites and a social media agency, and was the Comedy Editor of The Huffington Post UK.
I grew up in the West Midlands, studied in Sheffield, lived in London for over half my life, and recently moved to West Yorkshire. I’ve been a cinema manager, a (Labour) Westminster City Councillor and a stand-up comedy promoter, though not all at the same time.
