About
Owain Astles is a director, 1st AD and visual activist. A self-taught writer-director with work spanning across documentary, narrative and artist film, Owain’s stories focus on empowerment, community and resistance.
Owain’s award-winning work explores participatory practices, art as activism and the creation of immersive environments. Owain has a particular interest in exploring social issues, telling the human stories at their centre, from homelessness to the prison system.
Owain’s previous projects include To My Younger Self, a short documentary with BBC Arts about solitary confinement in Young Offender’s Institutions and Sleeping Rough, a globally screened docudrama about street homelessness in the UK.
