I opened my own theatre school, The Luke Footman School of Performing Arts, where I started using skills I had learnt from GCSE Media Studies. Then with my extended knowledge of the subject at A-level I have now acquired analytical skills which are helping me to contextualise different media forms and engage with my target audience. My other A-levels consist of English Literature and Drama Theatre Studies; I have also undertaken an EPQ extended qualification, developing critical thinking, in ‘The Invention of Childhood’ past, present, and future – using literature as the stimulus for my dissertation. This is giving me a broad overview of life and human communications and culture through different media forms; such as film and literature. An example of how these subjects support each other would be studying the media’s language and the way it was conducted to attract an audience’s attention, then Drama Theatre Studies helps to explore an extract of text physical and or mentally.
Practically I have gained professional experience alongside my academic learning. A year ago, I volunteered for a theatre school where I ran the marketing and advertising team on their professional performances. I worked on and with radio stations, press releases, poster design, set design, costume and marketing. I learnt the value of working as a member of the team in a stressful environment and I gained an understanding of the process of the media in a theatre production. I have also been involved in several other media projects, I joined the Jack Petchey Foundation of the Young Achievers network , where I volunteered for several huge events; For example I volunteered at The Evening Standard press party and The Glee Club at the O2 arena. I have also written several blogs, which can be found online, on behalf of the foundation. I am now leaving the foundation and have joined a new charity programme called ‘vInspired Team V’, which is an innovative group of young volunteers who run several campaigns on social and political matters. Within these campaigns you have to budget, design, market, run your own project/event, and be a social leader within your community.
After leaving Team V I wanted to stay in charity work and I volunteered for CCHF All About Kids, where I volunteered for a five night Residential looking after disadvantaged young kids with various problems. I'm still working with this charity and do various weekends with them. I am very passionate about charity work and making a difference in my local community and around the country. I just took a fashion PR internship at Attitude Magazine to extend my knowledge of the media and fashion industry. Of late I have continued my charitable work with the Jack Petchey Young Achievers Foundation and I'm really interested in staying involved with Newham Food-Bank and my work with raising awareness on the matter of food poverty.
As extra-curricular activities, I have acquired certificates from various charities for my extensive volunteering commitments. In 2013 I joined Alphabet Agency where I have taken part in several professional projects, such as, filming and commercials. Here I gained the acting side of the industry; for example I just finished filming a TV drama series where I gained an in-sight into the camera work, professional behaviour, and working as an ensemble. Other college activities have included, becoming a student ambassador where I have been involved in events management, open evenings, events, and programmes; also putting on several drama productions for my physical exams. In my leisure time, I like to read literature and make connections within different time periods when the novels were written and their connotations on the novels given audiences. Consequently I also enjoy writing, editing or designing magazine covers on Photoshop, and researching different areas of the media through blogging online.
