About
I have been lucky enough to work for organisations that offer a broad and rewarding work environment within the computer graphics industry, in both film and games. In October 2006, I returned to teaching at the NCCA in Bournemouth University. In 2010 I became the Joint Associate Dean for the Computer Animation Academic Group, overseeing the development and running of three undergraduate courses and three postgraduate courses. I was also the Postgraduate Framework Leader. As well as maintaining a strong academic profile, I have excellent experience of working with or in the animation industry; having developed credit bearing courses for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, as a Softimage Trainer at Microsoft’s Lionhead Studios and employed as the Training Manager at Animal Logic in Sydney.
In July 2011, I was responsible for the proposal and management of a VFX and Animation Competition and Festival (known as BFX) to be hosted in Bournemouth. I am currently working with companies such as Double Negative, Framestore, MPC, Cinesite, Disney, Animal Logic, ILM, The Mill as well as the Sector Skills Council 'Skillset', AUB and NCCA staff to have this run as the Premier UK VFX and Animation event. www.bfxfestival.com
In 2010/11 I contributed to the UK Governments Skill review initiated by Ed Vaizey (Minister for Communication, Culture and Creative Industries) and chaired by Ian Livingstone and Alex Hope. This led to the report entitled 'Next Gen' by NESTA, a landmark report setting out how the UK can be transformed into the world’s leading talent hub for video games and visual effects. http://www.nesta.org.uk/publications/assets/features/next_gen.
Recently I have engineered, wrote or contributed to a number of stories which celebrate the NCCA's success, including graduate achievements on films such as Gravity, Inception and Avatar. Stories have appeared in 3D Artist magazine, 3D World magazine, 3DTotal.com, The Guardian, Digital Production magazine, BBC, ITV and Prime Minsters Questions.
