Cillian started playing music when he was eleven years old. He won numerous All-Ireland titles on these instruments under 15–18 category including banjo solo and guitar accompaniment in 2009, and second place two years running on the mandolin. In the past Cillian has toured extensively in Europe and the USA with various different groups at venues including West Point, NY, The Lincoln Center, NY and the National Concert Hall of Ireland. The following artists are just a few of whom Cillian has performed with: Ulster Orchestra, John McSherry (Coolfin), Joanie Madden (Cherish The Ladies), Éamonn de Barra, Daire Bracken, (Slide), Kevin Burke (Patrick Street), Pauline Scanlon, Éilís Kennedy (Lumiere), Frankie Gavin (De Dannan) and Christy Moore (Planxty). On the 20th of December 2010, Cillian got the pleasure of performing for and “jamming” with members of U2, Bono and The Edge at a private ‘welcome home’ gig in Dromoland castle from their 360-degree tour. Cillian has been described by Kieran Hanarahan of Stocktons Wing as “One of the most innovative newcomers on the tenor banjo in recent years with a unique approach to the music and a technical ability that is unsurpassed”.
In the last four years Cillian has been a founder member of the Irish super music outfit, MOXIE. MOXIE has extensively toured europe & america in the past few years recieving rave reviews from highly sought after music critics.
