Always wanted to make your own short? Indie Training Fund with ScreenSkills are excited to announce that they will be running their Rising Directors Scheme for a second successful year. We are offering eight new and emerging directors the amazing opportunity to make their own three-minute short which will be showcased at Sheffield Doc/Fest 2019.

The scheme includes a fast-track intensive director’s refresher programme with masterclasses throughout. Each director will be given a budget of £5k and attached an Executive producer mentor who will support them and offer invaluable editorial support alongside networking and guidance.

Rising Directors is supported by BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 via the TV Skills Fund (TVSF) managed by ScreenSkills.

Please fill out the application form on Hiive, explaining why you want to direct documentaries and why you should be chosen for this scheme. Please provide a link to your showreel and/or examples of relevant work, along with two references from industry experts. Please attach a one-page idea/treatment for the short you would like to create as well as an outline of how you would work the £5k budget to achieve your idea.

Details

The Rising Directors Scheme gives emerging directors a chance to produce and direct their own documentary short. This programme provides you with the support, editorial skills and tools needed to produce and direct your first three-minute short.

Training will commence in March with a fast track, an intensive director’s refresher to ensure your technical and storytelling know-how is up to the standard necessary for today’s multi-skilled directors.

You will be given a budget of £5k and have between March and the end of May to produce, direct, edit and complete your film. Throughout the production process, there will be a range of skills-based masterclasses available to your needs as a non-scripted director. You will be allocated an executive producer mentor to give support and guidance throughout this process.

Your completed three minute film will showcase at Sheffield Doc/Fest 2019 viewed by like-minded directors and industry talent whose feedback will prove invaluable.

  • Rising Directors Scheme will offer eight places to a diverse range of Directors and Producers looking to make their first three-minute ‘calling card’ short
  • Applicants from a non-scripted background TV background
  • Must be a minimum level of AP/PD and shooting AP’s/PD’s
  • Applicants can be from a long or short form background or from the world of digital but must have a comparable level of experience
  • Self-shooting experience is essential
  • Scripting and edit experience not essential but preferred

The Rising Directors Scheme encourages applications from talent currently under represented in the television industry – including women, disabled talent, BAME talent or those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
