Award-winning TV show Outlander is recruiting up to 18 trainees, across various departments to train on Season 5 from December 2018. As a trainee on Outlander, you would be learning from some of the finest technicians working in the film and television industry. The experience of training within in a real filming environment will create a strong platform for our trainees to embark on successful careers within this industry.

All trainees will attend an induction course at the start of their placement as well as a shadowing scheme where trainees will gain experience from other departments. You will have a training plan and there will also be regular meetings with supervisors to monitor your trainee development. 

Trainees will be paid salaries between: £386 and £545 per week for between 42.5 and 60 hours per week, depending on role.

Eligibility criteria
The Outlander Training Programme supports diversity and encourages applications from across all sections of the community. No formal qualifications are required, however, applicants must be:

  • Normally resident in Scotland (The production base is Cumbernauld)
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Over 18 years old
  • Have a basic understanding of the film and television industry, preferably with relevant work experience
  • At least one credit from a professional TV or film production.
  • No more than 12 months paid experience within the department they are applying to

 

Recruitment at this stage is for trainees in production design, production, costume, rigging, carpentry. Later in the year, we are hoping to be able to offer opportunities in assistant director, camera, greens, props, set decoration and painters.

Production design trainees
Sony is looking for production trainees who are interested in or have some understanding of construction, an artistic eye and who may have some background in art, architecture or interior design. Skills in technical drawing, Sketch Up, Autocad, Rhino, Vector works or model-making skills would also be of benefit. Costume trainee
Sony is looking for costume trainees with a qualification from a costume or textile-related course or relevant experience within feature film or TV production's costume department. Find out more about working in costume design on ScreenSkills' costume page here.

Rigging trainees
Sony is looking for rigging trainees who have already learned the basic skills within rigging and scaffolding, ideally with a real interest in the film industry, practical experience working in a construction environment and who have attained a Basic Scaffolding Part One qualification. Carpentry trainee
Sony is looking for individuals who have already learned basic skills within carpentry, ideally with some time spent in a carpentry or joinery or being trained in set building. Ideal candidates will have a real interest in the construction side of film and practical experience in a construction or workshop environment. Judging

The deadline for applications is 10am 19 November 2018, interviews will be held between 26 November and 7 December 2018. The traineeship will commence on 10 December 2018 and run to approximately October 2019.
