Watch the Rising Directors Scheme films
5th September 2018
The Rising Directors Scheme was an ambitious new training programme to identify and develop rising, non-scripted TV directors. The scheme was commissioned by ScreenSkills' TV Skills Fund and run by the Indie Training Fund, supported by BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Each director was given a budget of £5,000 to make their own short, with support and ongoing mentoring from renowned documentary executive producers from TV and film, as well as an intensive directors’ training programme and bespoke industry-led masterclasses. All trainers/speakers were highly experienced with strong track records in film and programme production as well as training.
The completed films from the seven selected directors were screened in a special showcase to industry professionals including commissioning editors, executive producers and TV talent managers at the 2018 Sheffield Doc/Fest.
The scheme was a great success with all seven directors already contacted about future work.
This is my dream job and I would never have got the opportunity had it not been for the Scheme and the screening at Sheffield Doc/Fest. I can now see how I can have a career making docs. Before, it felt more like a hobby and an unattainable profession.Course participant Alice Rowsome
