12th September 2019
The achievements of ScreenSkills beneficiaries have been celebrated at a reception where alumni were encouraged to make new connections to further their career.
Introducing the occasion, ScreenSkills CEO Seetha Kumar said: “We feel a real sense of pride in your achievements. Congratulations to you, our brilliant alumni.”
The evening of celebration and networking, in London on 6 September, was attended by a mix of professionals who have participated in a range of ScreenSkills initiatives in 2018/19. Some travelled from as far as Scotland to meet up with their peers.
Attendees included alumni from the ScreenSkills flagship schemes Trainee Finder and Make a Move (high-end TV and children’s TV), as well as the ScreenSkills Series Producer, Rising Directors, Researcher to Shooting AP and Skills to Film programmes.
“This evening could be a forum for you to shape and build connections – the power of connection is the power for change,” Seetha said. “Ours is a relationship-based industry. It is about talent, trust and teamwork. It took me years to realise a few key truths – that as lonely as a freelance career can be, I can own and shape the energy I bring to a room. That the relationships I build, be it with colleagues or my bosses, can be my anchor – providing career advice, guidance, job recommendations, informal mentoring or just a safe space.”
