Screen Futures 2020: How to get in and get on in the screen and audio industries

ScreenSkills are working with the BBC Academy, BFI NETWORK, Calling the Shots, Cables & Cameras, We The Curious, TEDxBristol, Rumpus Animation, Wildseed Studios, Running films, BBC Writersroom, boomsatsuma and BECTU to deliver a day of masterclasses, screenings, networking and information about the screen and animation industries.

In the evening you’ll have the chance to meet Channel 4, ScreenSkills, Calling the Shots, BBC Upload, Bristol City of Film, BFI Network, BBC Talent, Bristol Media, Rumpus Animation, Wildseed Studios and We The Curious. You'll find out about a range of opportunities from bursaries which can help fund everything from training to driving lessons, funding rounds and many other great local and national schemes.

"Employment growth in the screen industries between 2013 and 2017 was more than twice as fast as employment growth in the general economy, so if you want to be a part of this boom in creative jobs, then this event is for you. The day is for people already in the industry who want to further their careers, as well as for those who want to get in."

The day will be hosted at the Watershed and will be split into two sessions: day and evening and you are welcome to join us for either or both.

You’ll be asked to select a session at each time slot for a day ticket if you don’t want to attend that particular time slot or you don’t have a preference please select 'I don’t want to attend a session'.

AFTERNOON SESSIONS:

Session one : 12.45 - 2pm

BBC Writersroom & Shortform Storytelling
Have a burning desire to make compelling short drama or comedy for social media? Then this is the session for you! The BBC team will focus on what you need to think about when developing scripted short form, how to stand out in a digital world and the opportunities for writers in the BBC

BECTU Freelance Survival in 2020 - This masterclass is now full 
What to expect as a freelancer within the creative industries. In this interactive session, you'll look at running yourself as a business, managing your time, your self and your health, whilst maintaining a career in the sector.

TEDxBristol: Tell Your Story
Learn how to find the story that you want to tell, refine it into a coherent shape, and explore tips and skills for pitching and presenting on YouTube and beyond.

Session two: 2.15pm - 3.30pm

BFI NETWORK & Funding your next film
Find out more about funding for short films and getting your work made. BFI NETWORK provides up to £15,000 of funding and development support for new and emerging filmmakers through their short film fund

New Creatives & Calling the Shots: Audio Storytelling Panel - This masterclass is now full 
Dive into the world of audio storytelling with a panel of audio commissioners, producers and content-makers.

Character masterclass and Animation industry insider tips
Join Rumpus Animation and Wildseed Studios for this masterclass in animation and tips on how to get into the Animation industry

Session three: 3.45pm - 5pm

How do we support the next generation of BAME filmmakers?
Cables & Cameras and MANDEM present an event with Sheridan De Myers of Running Films about the future of BAME filmmaking in the UK.
