Understanding Suicide Intervention... with Sarah McCaffrey

During this difficult time, ScreenSkills have teamed up with Solas Mind, a specialist mental health company led by Sarah McCaffrey who has extensive experience of working in film and high-end TV as a training manager. 

Who it's for

This session is aimed at anyone who is interested in understanding more about the theory and practice of suicide intervention skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting.

Speaker

This training is led by Solas Mind company founder and director Sarah McCaffrey who has extensive experience of working in television as a training manager. In response to industry research, and her background as a psychotherapist (MBACP) and a Suicide First Aid associate tutor, she launched Solas Mind to provide effective counselling services, mental health and suicide first aid training to those working in the industry.

What it covers

This session serves as an introduction to to the SFA: Suicide First Aid through uderstanding suicide intervention - the UK’s national qualification in suicide prevention. Topics to be discussed in this intimite workshop include:

• the continuum of suicide - understanding what suicide is and how it starts
• recognising the core needs of a person with thoughts of suicide
• an introduction to the Suicide Safety Guide - the three steps to support someone with thoughts of suicide
• Time will be allowed for Q and A.

This event is supported by the ScreenSkills Television Skills Fund which invests in training for the freelance television workforce thanks to contributions from the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Channel 5.
