Making the Grade is a specialist, free online training programme for early level professionals working in colouring and grading in the film/TV industry. 

It provides four months of professional support, including:

  • skills training in DaVinci Resolve
  • industry talks and webinars
  • mentoring by industry professionals
  • one-to-one support for each participant

This programme is supported by ScreenSkills using National Lottery funds awarded by the BFI as part of the Future Film Skills programme. 

Who it's for

This course is aimed at junior colourists and graders who are seeking to upskill with the goal of gaining sustainable work. There are 16 places offered to UK applicants from underrepresented backgrounds.

This includes those who define themselves as having a disability, impairment, learning difference or long-term condition that affects their daily life.

Applicants must have two or more professional production credits and/or have been employed in an industry-recognised role on two or more occasions.

Please note that you will need to have access to a computer that runs at a minimum of 4GB Graphics. 16GB ram is recommended as a minimum to be able to run DaVinci Resolve on your machine.

What it covers

The programme runs from December 2020 to March 2021 and includes:

  • introduction to the role of the colourist
  • Davinci Resolve workshop overview
  • online seminars and talks
  • one-on-one mentoring sessions

All training, mentoring and talks will take place online due to Covid-19 restrictions.
