  • Tues 18 Aug: 15:00-17:00
  • Wed 19 Aug: 15:00-16:15

This is a 2 part course. Please only apply if you can attend both days and work in unscripted TV.

In the early noughties, Caroline nearly left her board level job at ITV’s Carlton Television when she was told she was going to have to present to more than 2000 people on the stage of a West End cinema; public speaking was definitely not her thing. Fast forward nearly two decades and she is making a living on stages (and virtual stages) as a broadcaster, awards host, comedian and after-dinner speaker. In this workshop, Caroline demonstrates that if she can do it, anyone can do it.

Over the course of the two days, Caroline will help you gain confidence and develop meaningful techniques, as you work on discovering your own voice. Each session is interactive, with opportunities to ask questions and be part of discussions, as well as working on your own exercises. A safe, confidential space is guaranteed and this will be reiterated during the sessions. You will need a stable internet connection and we would encourage you to have your cameras on and be prepared to unmute yourselves in order to fully participate in the group.

Who it's for

The workshop is recommended for anyone currently working in unscripted TV would like to improve their communication, presence and presentation style. All levels of experience (and self-belief) are welcome and the sessions will harness potential rather than articulate shortfall.

What it covers

Themes include:

  • Finding your voice, not imitating someone else’s
  • Knowing your audience & how to reach them
  • Nerves – why they matter and how not to sh*t yourself
  • Making an impact in a virtual world
  • Content – creating and editing your message
  • Using humour to engage your audience (NB not how to become a stand-up!)
  • Maximising timing, body language, and choice of words
  • Pauses, silence and doing nothing
  • Avoiding death by PowerPoint
